As a full-time employee and student that cares about nutrition, one of my go-to healthy and delicious breakfasts is scrambled eggs with feta cheese made to perfection. It was fun to develop instructions for one of my favorite “quick and healthy" meals with the class. With the audience defined as everyone, the instructions were tailored to the members of the audience with the least knowledge of cooking.

 

The instructions included a detailed list of ingredients, tools/equipment, and definitions to accommodate for the reader that was not familiar with cooking tools. For engagement and clarity, pictures of the tools/equipment were included – who does not love a picture of what you need to find in those kitchen drawers. The challenge to define each step clearly was achieved by numbering each step, using warnings and pop-outs on steps that needed special attention, and adding corresponding pictures at major steps.

 

With multiple instruction test runs and revisions, the final instructions included each step with concise details, graphics, and pop-outs that guided the user to the perfect scrambled eggs with feta cheese.
