They say not to talk about politics with people you do not know, but I chose to do exactly that for this assignment which was to write a technical document for a foreign audience. Drawing on my love for U.S. history, I chose to research the founding fathers’ impact on the constitution for an Italian college student studying U.S. history.

The assignment included two research components. The first component was to research the technical data to be presented, and the second component was to research the target audience. Using the ASU library for research, I read and analyzed the founding fathers’ influences on the constitution from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Finding data on Italian college student perspectives on U.S. history proved to be more challenging, but with input from my peers and professors, I used social media sites to gather data on opinions of U.S. democracy and our constitution.

The report focused on the Jeffersonian and Hamiltonian struggle that took place during the founding of the United States and the ideological differences between the two groups. The report layout highlighted each side’s arguments concisely with counterpoints to each argument. Using the chunking and layering technique created a document that was easy to understand and place yourself in U.S. history. The challenge was to incorporate limited data for an Italian perspective.
